Bowhunting Safety

Following are some general safety principles that bowhunters must learn:
  1. Wear finger and arm protection when shooting - bare fingers quickly get sore, and the bowstring can leave a nasty bruise on the forearm that holds the bow if your stance is not correct.
  2. Keep broadheads covered at all times when not in use - they are designed to cut effortlessly through skin and tissue, and they will cut yours just as well as they will cut an animal's. Always use a broadhead wrench when changing arrowheads.
  3. Inspect cables and bowstring before every use - if a string or cable should break, the bow limbs may actually shatter, sending bits of wood or fiberglass flying. This can also happen if you "dry-fire" a bow (that is, draw and release the bow without an arrow).
