Unloading and Loading Firearms

Follow these guidelines when learning to unload and load firearms:

  • Always PROVE the firearm is unloaded and safe to handle.
  • Have someone who is familiar with the firearm give you guidance. Don't do this on your own!
  • Use deactivated or "dummy" ammunition—not live.
  • Remember to keep your finger outside the trigger guard.
  • Practice! The more comfortable you are with the operation of your firearm the safer you will handle it.
