Fair
chase balances the skills and equipment of the hunter with the abilities
of the animal to escape.
Responsible hunters practice
"fair chase." Responsible hunters do not take unfair advantage
of game animalsfair chase shows respect for other people and wildlife.
People expect hunters to practice fair chase. When hunters take unfair
advantage of game animals it creates a poor hunter image.
Below are examples of what is considered
fair and unfair hunting practice
for just one species, the North American wild turkey.
- Fair: Using decoys and calls to hunt turkeys
- Unfair and/or illegal: shooting the turkey
out of the roost tree
Know the hunting laws and the rules of fair chase.
Abide by them! It always
makes for a more enjoyable and satisfying hunt!
